Never stop, delay or change your cancer treatment to try any alternative. Everything below is about helping you feel stronger and more comfortable while you undergo that treatment — and only with your oncology team's knowledge.

A cancer diagnosis affects the whole person — body, appetite, energy, sleep and spirit — not just the illness itself. Modern oncology treats the disease; supportive care looks after the person going through it. Used correctly, Ayurveda can be a gentle, complementary part of that supportive care: aimed at comfort, nourishment and wellbeing, always coordinated with the doctors leading your treatment.

What "supportive care" means in cancer

Supportive (or integrative) care is anything that helps you cope better with cancer and its treatment — managing side-effects, keeping up strength, easing stress — without replacing the treatment itself. It is care built around you, not a second therapy competing with your chemotherapy or radiation.

Done responsibly, Ayurvedic supportive care follows three simple rules: it works alongside your oncologist, it is personalised and supervised, and it makes no claim to cure. Anyone who tells you otherwise is not practising honest medicine.

How Ayurveda may support you during treatment

The focus is comfort and quality of life. Under a physician's supervision, and in coordination with your oncology team, Ayurvedic supportive care may help with common challenges of treatment. Results vary from person to person, and nothing here is guaranteed:

Fatigue and weakness — gentle, individualised rest, nourishment and rejuvenative support to help you cope with treatment-related tiredness.
Appetite and digestion — chemotherapy and radiation often affect eating; simple dietary and digestive support aims to help you take in nourishment.
Nausea and discomfort — supportive, comforting measures alongside the anti-nausea medicines your oncologist prescribes.
Sleep, stress and emotional wellbeing — calming routines and counselling-oriented care for the anxiety that so often comes with treatment.
Skin, mouth and dryness — gentle care for the dryness and soreness that treatment can bring.
Strength and recovery between cycles — supervised, graded nourishment to help you rebuild between treatment cycles, when your treating team agrees it is safe.

A note on Panchakarma: intensive detox procedures are not routinely appropriate during active cancer treatment. Any therapy is chosen conservatively, gently and only when your oncology team agrees it is safe — never as a "cleanse" to fight the cancer.

Safety first: why your oncology team must be involved

This is the part that matters most. Some herbs and supplements can interact with chemotherapy or radiation, affect the liver or kidneys, or change how treatment works. That is exactly why supportive care must be supervised and coordinated — not bought over a counter or off the internet.

Tell both teams everything. Your oncologist and your Ayurvedic physician should each know every medicine, herb and supplement you take.
Timing and choice are checked against your treatment, so nothing interferes with it.
Be very cautious of "immune boosters" and miracle products. Some unproven products are harmful, and some can interfere with proven treatment. Strength comes from safe, supervised care — not from a bottle promising to "kill cancer".
